The Wagner and Luvu signing doesn’t look good for their 25-year-old linebacker, who has a 5th-year option due next week. The Commanders have made their decision.

The Commanders declined Jamin Davis’ 5th-year option worth $14.483 million for the 2025 season. The 5th-year option would have made him one of the highest players at the position, making the decision a no-brainer, and he will be an unrestricted free agent after the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Davis had a disappointing rookie season. He played in 16 games, starting eight, with 76 tackles, three TFLs, one sack, one pass deflection, and a 46.8 PFF Grade.
Davis slightly improved in his second season. He played in 16 games, starting 15, with 104 tackles, nine TFLs, three sacks, one pass deflection, and a 62.9 PFF Grade.
Davis had his best year in the NFL in his third season. He played in 13 games, starting 13, with 89 tackles, eight TFLs, three sacks, one interception, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and a 67.6 PFF Grade. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 13.
2024 will be a crucial year for Jamin Davis.
2024 will be a crucial year for Davis because he is entering a contract year and has a chance to prove his worth in the NFL. If he plays well, he could get a decent contract and potentially be a starter in 2025.
If he doesn’t play well, a decent contract seems unlikely, and he’ll either be a backup or remain a free agent in 2025.
