The Kansas City Chiefs want to keep one of their prized goats on the Arrowhead Stadium pasture as long as possible.
The Chiefs reached an extension with president Mark Donovan, general manager Brett Veach, and head coach Andy Reid last week. They agreed to another extension to keep a future Hall of Fame player on the offense for seasons to come.
If they want to.
Rumors were heavy on a Reid-Kelce retirement
Rumors spread this winter that Reid and tight end Travis Kelce could retire as soon as this offseason following the Super Bowl. However, Reid and Kelce declared their intention to return for the 2024 season so they have a chance to win a threepeat. Kelce could be around for a while after his new deal was announced on Monday.
Travis Kelce signs an extension
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Chiefs are set to make Kelce the highest-paid tight end in the league. He has agreed to a two-year contract extension.

The terms of the new deal have not been disclosed yet. There wasn’t much smoke in the rumor mill regarding a new contract for Kelce this offseason, as he was under contract with the Chiefs through the 2025 season.
(Update: Terms of the new deal)
Per Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Chiefs gave Kelce a two-year extension worth $34.25 million.

At 34, Kelce still has the tools to be the best tight end in the NFL. Last season, he caught 93 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns. He has 907 receptions for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdowns in his 11-year career.
In a statement by the Chiefs, the team called Kelce the “greatest tight end ever.”
