The New York Jets have a lot of eyes on them entering the 2024 NFL season. They will certainly get enough opportunities to show what they got, considering they have six primetime games this season.
As a result, Jets QB Aaron Rodgers has called the team “must-watch TV” in response to all of the primetime games on their schedule. However, one problem arises before those games can even begin. Rodgers reportedly has other priorities over the team.
Aaron Rodgers Chooses Event Over New York Jets

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Aaron Rodgers did not show up for the Jets’ mandatory minicamp this morning. As a result, he could be subject to fines by the team. Jets head coach Robert Saleh noted that this was an unexcused absence, but he had notified Saleh he would not show up before the minicamp started.
So, why is Rodgers not attending this mandatory minicamp? The exact reason is still unknown at the time of writing. However, Saleh revealed that Rodgers had an event that was “important to him” during the time of this minicamp.
Does Aaron Rodgers Need Minicamp?

Truthfully, Rodgers can probably show up to training camp and pick up where he left off. He is 40 years old and he is entering his 20th NFL season. His tenure is so shocking that his own teammates were floored when finding out he has been playing in the NFL longer than some players have been alive.
Age certainly has to be a factor here. On top of this, Rodgers is coming off of a significant injury. Last season, Rodgers tore his Achilles just four snaps into the 2023 season. Now, there is a question as to whether Rodgers will ever be the same quarterback again.
New York Jets Moving Forward

So, what will the Jets do now? They will have to proceed with their mandatory minicamp without Aaron Rodgers. However, he is not the only player that will be missing the minicamp.
Notably, LB Haason Reddick is also not attending the mandatory minicamp. It is safe to say he may not be happy with the new situation he finds himself in. Reddick was traded to the Jets by the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason and notably did not speak to Saleh throughout the offseason.
Now, the Jets have the task of solving this drama before the 2024 season. For Saleh, the stakes are even higher, as he could find himself in the hot seat if the Jets fail again.
