The Las Vegas Raiders were able to land wide receiver Davante Adams ahead of the 2022 season but it seems like it could’ve been a bit of a regret for him. In the most recent episode of The Rush Podcast with Maxx Crosby, his Las Vegas Raiders teammate Davante Adams discussed how he did not see the progression that Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love happening before ultimately being traded.
“At the time when I was there [in Green Bay], I hadn’t seen enough [of Love], to say for sure ‘this is what I should do [stay with the Packers],’ In hindsight, like we talked about, the kid [Love] is a f—ing baller, man.”
Jordan Love had a great season as he was 372-of-579 (64.2%) for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He also threw for 466 yards with five touchdowns to two interceptions in his two playoff games last season.
This is something that will be interesting as there have been discussions about teams wanting to trade with the Raiders for Davante Adams, including the New York Jets. Adams still has showcased incredible talents as he was able to record 103 catches on 175 targets for 1,144 yards (11.1 yards per reception) with eight receiving touchdowns in 2023.
What does Davante Adams’ contract currently look like?
Adams is currently in the third year of a five-year, $140 million extension he signed before playing a down for the Las Vegas Raiders. However, there is a potential out in the deal after this season as the money kicks in the final two years of the deal. Below is the breakdown on the base salary Adams receives in each year of the contract, per Spotrac.
- 2022: $3.5 million
- 2023: $6.03 million
- 2024: $16.89 million
- 2025: $35.64 million
- 2026: $35.64 million
This is why trading him last season did not make too much sense for the Raiders as he is still severely underpaid for the production. However, only $22.75 million was guaranteed at the time of the signing, ranking 23rd in the NFL.
Will Davante Adams get traded before the end of this contract?
It seems likely that Adams is going to be traded at some point of the contract if the out after this upcoming season is not exercised. The major money kicks in during the final two years of the contract and the Raiders are currently not built to win as they have Aidan O’Connell as their projected starting quarterback.
Paying a wide receiver that significant money is tough and after drafting Georgia tight end Brock Bowers with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, it appears the team could replicate his numbers as a collective going forward and get some draft capital and cap flexibility as a result.
