The Arizona Cardinals could look to build one of the league’s most explosive wide receiving corps around Kyler Murray in two fell swoops during the NFL Draft, potentially even as part of a blockbuster trade with the Cincinnati Bengals.
It is almost inconceivable that the Cardinals would enter the 2024 season with a receiving corps headlined by Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch, Chris Moore, and Zach Pascal.
Given that the Cardinals are slated to select No. 4 overall in the upcoming draft, generational receiver prospect and former Ohio State Buckeye Marvin Harrison Jr. seems all but earmarked to hear his name called by Arizona next Thursday night.
“Size and physicality,” an NFL Scouting Director told me were Harrison’s best traits. “Very good short to intermediate receiver. Can separate with power and route running. True chain mover”
But, there’s a chance Harrison won’t be the only marquee addition made to the receiving corps during Round 1.
Could Arizona Cardinals Trade for Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins in NFL Draft Blockbuster?
It is entirely conceivable that Kyler Murray’s supporting cast will include Harrison Jr., and Cincinnati Bengals dynamic playmaker Tee Higgins by the time the first round of the draft reaches its conclusion.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell put together 32 trade proposals for the first round, including a blockbuster deal that sends Higgins and the No. 115 overall pick, in the fourth round, to the desert in exchange for the Cardinals’ 27th overall pick in the first round.
“Want to build a devastating receiving corps in one day?” Barnwell posits for ESPN. “Take Marvin Harrison Jr. with the No. 4 pick, then trade this selection for Higgins. With Harrison on a rookie deal for the next four years and Trey McBride still on one for two more seasons, the Cardinals could give Higgins an extension and roll out Harrison, Higgins and McBride as the three top playmakers in their passing attack for Kyler Murray. That’s a fun group, even amid stiff competition for that title in the NFC West.”
Why Acquiring Higgins Makes Sense for Cardinals
Pairing Harrison Jr. and Higgins would certainly lay the foundation for the Cardinals to be contenders for years to come, while forging one of the most explosive receiving corps in the league.
Higgins is one year removed from matching a career-high 74 receptions while producing 1,029 receiving yards and catching a career-best seven touchdowns.
Harrison and Higgins would give Murray a pair of game-altering weapons and would jumpstart an offense that ranked 26th in the league last season in which Murray didn’t make his debut until November after returning from a torn ACL.
Additionally, as Barnwell explains, Arizona would get the benefit of having one more franchise tag to evaluate Higgins in their scheme over the next two years before making a long-term financial commitment.
