Robert Woods’ Journey
Now in his 13th NFL season as a veteran, Woods will bring leadership experience to the Steelers wide receiver room, which includes George Pickens and new addition DK Metcalf. Despite his limited production in receiving yards and catches as a Houston Texan last season, Woods brings important player leadership qualities to an offense that is planning on some major changes at the quarterback position.
The quarterback position for the Pittsburgh Steelers remains entirely up for grabs. The local media have persistently connected Pittsburgh to Aaron Rodgers for offseason acquisition, yet the four-time MVP has kept silent about a possible retirement or Steelers employment. The Steelers are having ongoing conversations with Aaron Rodgers regarding a potential future, but coach Mike Tomlin said,
“Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters today that he has no definitive update nor timeline on Aaron Rodgers and any decision to sign with Pittsburgh. Tomlin said the Steelers still are evaluating potential quarterback acquisitions and are doing their due diligence.”
Meanwhile, the team took Ohio State’s Will Howard in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Howard led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a national championship last season and had over 4,000 passing yards. He now joins the quarterback corps of Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph. With Justin Fields and Russell Wilson both leaving the team, Pittsburgh finds itself in need of a starting quarterback.

With Woods joining the receiver room, his veteran knowledge will be relied upon, no matter who the starting quarterback is. Woods brings leadership to the receiver room even though he’s a supporting wideout to Pickens and Metcalf.
The Steelers stand behind their next quarterback by acquiring dependable wide receivers such as Robert Woods and DK Metcalf while waiting for Aaron Rodgers’ decision or whoever the next quarterback may be.
