Who will crash the CFP party routinely hosted by Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson?
Those four schools have dominated the college football landscape for a long time. Unfortunately, for other schools, the landscape does not appear to be changing. There are, however, a couple of schools that could crash the CFP party this season, if things should go their way.
Party Crasher #1: USC
The Trojans have made a lot of headlines this offseason.
First, there was the masterful hire of former Oklahoma coach, Lincoln Riley. This hire and the onslaught of high-caliber transfers and recruits headed to L.A. to play under Riley make the move that much more impressive.
Next, USC followed this up with the seismic announcement that it will eventually leave the Pac-12 for the greener pastures of the Big 10. Combine all of this with the expected return of the Pete Carroll-era glitz and glam that surrounded the program in the early 2000s and you can see why USC might be ready for a spot in the college football playoffs.
According to www.SI.com, the Trojans currently stand at 25/1 odds of making the CFP. Big-time players such as Oklahoma-transfer quarterback, Caleb Williams and Biletnikoff-winner, Jordan Addison, give the Trojans a lethal one-two punch that could see them running the table in the Pac-12 and getting that treasured CFP slot.
That is, of course, if USC can play any kind of defense. If last year was any indication, then the Trojans may still be a season away from making a serious run at the playoffs.
Time will tell.
Party Crasher #2: Texas A&M
Maybe Jimbo Fisher’s time at Texas A&M has finally come.
The Aggies head coach won a national championship at Florida State, so he knows what it takes to get to the CFP. Unfortunately, Fisher’s time at A&M has been somewhat pedestrian in terms of results. Yes, the Aggies defeated the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide last season, but an 8-4 record is not quite good enough for the Aggies faithful considering how much Fisher was paid to come to College Station, Texas.
Fortunately, the Aggies trajectory could be trending upwards.
Slotted at 22/1 odds to make the college football playoffs by www.SI.com, Fisher’s promise to turn Texas A&M into a college football behemoth may soon come true. The Aggies return a solid group of position players along with L.S.U. quarterback transfer, Max Johnson, plus an incoming recruiting class some consider to be the best in college football history. Now, is the time for the Aggies to maneuver their way into the party of four that continues to dominate college football. With home games against Ole Miss, Miami and Florida, the 2022 season could be shaping up nicely for the Aggies, but once again, it’ll be Alabama that proves to be the toughest test on the Aggies’ schedule.
Oh, and that game is at Tuscaloosa this season. Oh, and they won’t be happy about what happened last season.
Enjoy The 2022 Season
Like most of the world, college football has entered a state of uncertainty in terms of conference realignments. What is not uncertain is the fact that Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson are the predicted CFP teams going into the 2022 season.
Hopefully, one of the teams highlighted above or a cinderella squad like Cincinnatti from last season can crash the party routinely set-up for the goliaths of college football.
Time will tell.
