Washington State Cougars QB Cam Ward had a remarkable 2023 college football season. Many people speculated what Ward’s next move might be after having such a great season. Well, we now have our answer to start the 2024 calendar year.
Cam Ward Declares for the NFL Draft
According to On3 Sports, Ward has declared for the NFL Draft. This means that he will forego his senior season in favor of the NFL. So, how did he do at Washington State?
Ward left his mark on the Cougars’ program, particularly in the 2023 season. He had 3,736 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, and just seven interceptions. In the year prior, Ward had 3,232 passing yards, 23 touchdown passes, and nine interceptions.
Quarterback Competition
Despite having a productive 2023 season, Ward will have a lot of quarterback competition in the 2024 NFL Draft. Because of this, it will be very difficult to get drafted in the first round. Some other quarterbacks in this class include Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Wiliams, Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, and more.
Washington State Cougars Moving Forward
Right now, the Cougars have bigger problems as a football program. They were left out of major conference realignment. In 2024, Washington State and Oregon State will keep their football programs in the Pac-12 and play six games against the Mountain West. Almost every other sports team will play in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
