The future is bright for the Washington Commanders. The arrival of Jayden Daniels has ushered in a new era for the Commanders, who now have a new cornerstone quarterback for the future.
This new era, however, also means that there could be no room for some players on the squad. Jahan Dotson, Washington’s first-round pick from two years ago, could be one of those left on the outside looking in.
Should Washington Commanders Pull Plug on Jahan Dotson?
NFL analyst Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports recently came up with a list of players who are entering a make-or-break year. Dotson, who followed up a noteworthy rookie campaign with a rather lackluster sophomore run, is one of the players who Trapasso believes has a lot to prove in 2024:
“As a rookie, playing opposite Terry McLaurin, who’s always seemingly on a cusp of being widely accepted as a superstar, Dotson caught 35 passes for 523 yards with a whopping seven touchdowns on under 55% of Washington’s offensive snaps. In his sophomore season in the nation’s capitol, Dotson played more than 82% of the snaps and only saw a minor uptick in receptions (49) with fewer yards (508) and four scores.
“Now, any young receiver should be exuding confidence after 11 touchdowns in his first two NFL campaigns. But Dotson was clearly less efficient as an offensive weapon in his second season,” Trapasso argued.
It’s not as if Dotson took a massive dive in Year 2. However, it’s hard to deny that his progress may have fallen short of the expectations most folks had of him after a tremendous rookie year.
There’s obviously going to be a lot of pressure on Dotson this coming season for him to prove that he should be part of the young Daniels-led core. Failing to do so could mean that time is running out for the 24-year-old wideout:
“Do I think the Commanders would automatically trade him if he doesn’t erupt in Year 3? No. But if he hovers around 45-50 snags with 500-ish yards and a few scores with Jayden Daniels throwing him the football in what truly marks a new era in franchise history, then he’s unlikely to be in the team’s long-term plans after the 2024 season,” Trapasso wrote.

Trading Dotson would be a mistake he is a great receiver with great hands. You have a new coordinator that could change things around. Dotson is another weapon on your team. Washington has made two mistakes in the past. One Sweat and Smith one to the bears the another to Green Bay both are great players.
Bad, move. Don’t trade him, why? I think he is a very good receiver, as well excellent route runner! Don’t trade him. He’s apart of the new area. Keep him.
Articles like this just make me cringe!! Analysist were just saying that project Dotson to have a 1000 yard season, now we should toss him. He is a solid player and I believe in staying with your “DAY ONES” the guys that suffered through mediocre qbs and terrible OCs and play calling with a head coach that appeared to be sleep at the controls. Dotson is a Skin…PERIOD!!!
