There’s no doubt Jayden Daniels has been quite the surprise for the Washington Commanders this season. Turns out, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has predicted the rookie quarterback to win both MVP and Offensive Rookie of the Year in his analysis.
Daniels has quickly made a name for himself in the NFL, leaving the Washington Commanders thoroughly impressed. Selected second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, the 23-year-old quarterback has shown remarkable talent and determination, leading the Commanders to a strong 3-1 record as they head into a matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
The Commanders star has demonstrated impressive statistics, completing 87 of 106 passes for 897 yards and three touchdowns, while also showcasing his dual-threat capability with 218 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. His performance has drawn comparisons to established stars like Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, not just for his skill on the field but also for his work ethic and humility.
Head coach Dan Quinn praised Daniels’ commitment, emphasizing that there’s no magic behind his success—just hard work. Quinn noted that Daniels’ confidence stems from the rigorous preparation he puts in, allowing him to execute effectively when it counts.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell Predicts Washington Commanders to Win MVP and Offensive Rookie of the Year
Thanks to his impressive showing on the field, the Commanders have risen to the top of the NFC East with a 3-1 record. His performance also prompted Barnwell to project him as the number one contender for MVP and Offensive Rookie of the Year in his NFL analysis for ESPN.
“Daniels is going to come up later in this column, so I want to save most of my analysis for then. Just to keep things simple, though, he ranks fourth in the league in QBR and has been the driving force for the best offense in football. That seems simple enough to me. Nabers might be one of the three best wide receivers in football so far, but Daniels has been equally effective at the most valuable position in sports,” Barnwell wrote of Daniels’ chances to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
“When I looked at offenses as dominant as Washington’s and what each did over the first four games of the season, the comparables here were the best seasons by the greatest quarterbacks of the past few generations, including Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Those are the first four games of Daniels’ career. Maybe he won’t keep this up. Maybe he needs more help. I’ve already argued the Commanders should go after Davante Adams. In terms of the first month of the 2024 season, though? The best player in football has been Jayden Daniels,” the NFL analyst added about the possibility of Daniels winning MVP.
Before entering the NFL, Daniels had an outstanding college career at LSU, earning accolades such as the Walter Camp Award and the Heisman Trophy. Over five seasons, he amassed over 12,000 passing yards and 89 touchdowns, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier player.
As he prepares to face the Browns, Daniels aims to continue his impressive form and further establish himself as a key player in the league. His journey from college star to NFL sensation is one to watch as he seeks to make a lasting impact on the Commanders and beyond.
