Vontae Davis’ Stellar Decade-Long NFL Career
Davis was originally chosen by the Dolphins with the No. 25 overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. During his career, Davis went on to make two Pro Bowl appearances with the Indianapolis Colts.
His retirement was one of the strangest in league history, when he simply removed himself from a Week 2 game at halftime and drove home, with the Bills trailing 28-6 against the Chargers.
“Most people, when I did what I did, they thought I was literally going insane or something,” Davis told ESPN back in 2019. “But I was actually fine. I was totally fine. And I’m totally fine today.”
The University of Illinois standout played 10 seasons in the NFL, before announcing his retirement in 2018. Vontae Davis finished his career with 340 total tackles with 22 interceptions, one fumble recovery and a pair of sacks.
No cause of death has been reported by authorities in Davis’ death.
