For those unaware, star pass rusher Von Miller has been battling off-the-field issues stemming from a late November arrest warrant. The Buffalo Bills defensive captain turned himself in and was released later that same day. While the investigation gets sorted out, many were left wondering if Miller would miss any playing time. On Wednesday morning, Bills GM Brandon Beane provided an answer.
Von Miller should be available on Sunday, as there’s no expectation that he’ll be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List.
Beane added that he’s spoken with the league, so he doesn’t expect anything to change before this weekend’s game. Buffalo is following the NFL’s lead, so any decisions regarding Von Miller will come from the top of the NFL. Unless new information changes the league office’s mind, Miller should practice this week and suit up on Sunday.
Miller, in his second season with the Bills, has faced an investigation before. As a Denver Bronco in 2021, Von Miller was subject to a police investigation for a potential crime. Before then, Miller hadn’t faced any off-the-field problems since a six-game suspension in 2013. That was a result of substance abuse, although Miller also had traffic court violations back then that he didn’t show up to court for.
Von Miller is Having a Down Year
Von Miller may be headed to Canton one day, but 2023 is not helping his case much. Buffalo’s expensive linebacker has played in eight games this season. He has two tackles and one QB hit. That’s it for the entire year entering Week 14.
Many were already disappointed in Miller’s play before any of these legal issues popped up. In a year where plenty of Buffalo’s defensive players have gone down, he’s supposed to be a guy who would step up. Instead, the 6-6 Bills are currently outside of the AFC playoff picture with only five games remaining. Von Miller is getting a chance to stay on the field. Will he make it count?
