The Minnesota Vikings win against the Detroit Lions 28-24 on Sunday afternoon was a thrilling game filled with many ups and downs for both teams. Let’s take a deeper dive into this game and what lies ahead for both teams.
Minnesota Vikings
This was a very important bounce back win for the Vikings. Minnesota responded with a win after getting stomped by the Eagles in week two. Wide receivers K.J. Osborn and Adam Thielen played great games. Osborn went for 5 catches for 73 yards and the game winning touchdown. Adam Thielen had 6 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. On a day where Dalvin Cook got hurt and Justin Jefferson couldn’t get going these two receivers stepped up in a big way for Minnesota. As for the defense it was just good enough to win this game. Detroit gained 416 total yards but only scored 24 points. Minnesota’s defense definitely has room to improve but they got just enough stops to win this game and move to 2-1.
Detroit Lions
The Lions are no joke anymore. They have proved that after the first 3 weeks of this season. Dan Campbell has Detroit playing really hard and competitive in every game. Now they still lost this game and it was extremely winnable. They held 14-0 and 24-14 leads in this game and lost. The offense was good but couldn’t put the game away. Jared Goff went 25/41 for 277 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Receivers Josh Reynolds and Amon-Ra St. Brown each played well. Reynolds had 6 catches for 96 yards and St. Brown had 6 catches for 73 yards. Their defense played decent but could not limit the Vikings to field goals as Minnesota went 4/4 on touchdowns. The Lions will have many close games this season and will have to play better on both sides of the ball to close out games.
What Lies Ahead
Following the Vikings win over the Lions, next week Minnesota travels to London to play the Saints at 8:30 am central time. The Lions will host the Seahawks at noon central time. The Vikings will look to improve to 3-1 while the Lions look to get back to .500 and move to 2-2. This was an exciting game and we can only hope that the week 14 matchup between these teams is as exciting as this game was.
