Urban Meyer Crushes Michigan” They Can’t Succeed, There’s Zero Chance”

Urban Meyer is one of the best coaches ever to walk a college football sideline, winning three titles, two at Florida and one at Ohio State, and he knows a lot about what a title team looks like.

Last week, one of Meyer’s former rivals, Michigan, had themselves a game, beating USC with a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Michigan won the game differently than many great teams. They did so by pulling off huge runs and not letting their quarterback, Alex Orji, throw.

Orji only threw for 32 yards, but it didn’t matter because they pulled off the upset, which is the only thing that counts. Throwing for less than 50 yards in a game isn’t going to work against top teams, and Urban Meyer had a strong take on Michigan’s style of play.

Urban Meyer Doens’t Think Michigan Can Win With Their Style

Meyer was on his The Triple Option podcast, and an article from On3.com’s Grant Grubbs stated that Meyer had a strong take on Michigan’s passing game. Here is what the former head coach had to say.

“They can’t [succeed]. There’s zero chance with that kind of balance,” Meyer said. “They got to play both quarterbacks. I said that when we were there. Alex Orji is good enough to play. He’s got to play. I think he’s a tremendous player. But, to answer your question: no.

“You’re going to get zero coverage every snap, and you will see that the numbers disappear. I like how rugged the Wolverines were on offense and defense, and that’s kind of a trademark of who they are, but there is zero chance unless you balance that thing up. At some point, it’s going to be nine up, and you’ll stop the run.”

Urban Meyer says Michigan won’t succeed without a passing game:

Meyer is right that Michigan won’t be able to succeed not being able to pass the ball. It worked for one game, but what will happen when teams just stack the box and make Orji throw the ball?

Michigan still has to play Oregon and Ohio State, who have a great defense and will ensure that Orji has to throw the ball to beat them.
