The 2028 Olympics held in Los Angeles are going to include flag football among all of the sports. The proposal for new sports including baseball, lacrosse, softball, cricket, squash, and football has gone through and we will get to see all of these sports that fans have been dying to see in the Olympics.

Olympics’ Proposal
LA28’s proposal has been put forward by the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board. Chairperson Casey Wasserman said in a statement, “They’re relevant, innovative and community-based, played in backyards, schoolyards, community centers, stadiums and parks across the US and the globe,” when talking about adding the sports.
Wasserman also said, “They will bring new athletes to the Games, engage diverse fanbases, and expand the Games’ presence in digital spaces, further amplifying LA28’s mission to deliver an unparalleled experience.”
What it Means for the National Football League
The 2028 Olympic Games will now include flag football – a non-contact version of American football. This will be great for the National Football League world and is likely to include the best-of-the-best athletes in the sport. We can see players like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Jefferson, and Christian McCaffrey all in the Olympics just to name a few! We could maybe even see some retired stars play in the Games like Tom Brady or Randy Moss. This is just speculation for now as the requirements to play are not yet known.
This can also mean that other football leagues including the CFL, USFL, and XFL will be able to participate in the Games. The National Football League already has a version of flag football in the league… the Pro Bowl. The Pro Bowl was not always flag football, but as the league has made progressions to limit unnecessary injuries, they have switched it over to flag football instead of tackle. The players seemed to enjoy it and now may be able to in the 2023 Olympic Games.
