Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill might have been called out by his head coach for his poor play against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the wide receiver appears more hurt by how his former team handled his legacy before the 2022 season.
The Kansas City Chiefs gave No. 10 to a different player
The Chiefs traded Hill to the Dolphins in March of 2022. The move gave the Chiefs five draft picks and saved the team cap space. The Chiefs would win back-to-back Super Bowls, while Hill’s season would end in the Wild Card round. Following Hill’s trade, the team drafted running back Isiah Pacheco. Pacheco took the No. 10 jersey that Hill used to wear. Hill evidently has a problem with that.
Tyreek Hill felt disrespected
Per a transcription of Hill’s comments on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast by NBC Sports, Hill praised Pacheco but said he felt hurt when the Chiefs gave him the No. 10 jersey:
“Kansas City’s got a real good running back. He’s a dawg. You can hear and see every step he takes he runs so hard,” Hill said on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast . . . I did feel disrespected when they gave him 10 though. I didn’t like that. There’s only one 10 now. There should only be one 10 in your heart.”
Hill needs to focus on the dolphins
Hill gave the Chiefs six stellar years in Kansas City. But one wonders if he stayed with the Chiefs long enough that the team would retire his number following his career in the league. If Hill stays in Miami to cap off his career and maybe wins a Super Bowl, the Dolphins might retire his jersey.
It’s time for Hill to beat the Chiefs instead of reminiscing about the past.
