The Pro Bowl is a celebration of the NFL season and the stars that made it one of the most exciting sports leagues in the world, so some expected Trevor Lawrence to show up and join the festivities when Lamar Jackson wasn’t going to participate for the AFC.
However, the Clemson product was nowhere to be seen during the festivities, which might have led some to believe that the injury he sustained during the season was more serious than expected. However, reports reveal that the reason behind his absence is simpler than it seems.
Trevor Lawrence didn’t participate in Pro Bowl due to ‘late notice’
The former first-overall pick of the 2021 Draft was reportedly invited by AFC coach Peyton Manning to take Jackson’s place in the team, who opted out despite being healthy enough to participate.
The reason for his denial to attend, as reported by Jaguars Wire’s Adam Stites, was a matter of scheduling conflicts rather than his health:
Manning, who served as head coach of the AFC, told reporters that he spoke to Lawrence prior to the event, and said that the Jaguars quarterback didn’t participate because it was “kind of a late notice thing.”
“Talked to him this week, trying to maybe see if he was going to come down once Lamar [Jackson] was unable to play and just couldn’t — kind of a late notice thing for him, but he’s great,” Manning said, via Brent Martineau of Action Sports Jax.
The quarterbacks selected to represent the AFC in January were Jackson, Tua Tagovailoa, and Patrick Mahomes. With Mahomes focusing on Super Bowl LVIII with the Kansas City Chiefs, two spots were left to be filled. CJ Stroud and Gardner Minshew were the ones who took over the vacancies in the AFC squad.
Trevor Lawrence had an okay season for Duval County, finishing the year with 4016 passing yards, 21 passing TDs, and 14 interceptions. While it was unfortunate that he didn’t get the Pro Bowl nod, he can push for an appearance with a stronger performance under center for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2024 season. Our Partners
