Following the embarrassing loss the Dallas Cowboys suffered against the Buffalo Bills, many commentators and analysts has a lot to say about the Cowboys, specifically that they are not nearly as scary as some thought they were. Ex New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski chimed in after the game saying:
“When you can’t go on the road and win a big game in a hostile environment with weather that isn’t on your side, isn’t in your favor, it means you’re not mentally tough,” Gronk said. “The Dallas Cowboys are not a mentally tough football team.”
Gronk knows a thing or two about being mentally tough, and about winning big games on the road against great teams. He makes a great point on the sense that the Cowboys did not just lose but they got dealt an absolute beat down with their only touchdown coming in garbage time to Ceedee Lamb.
This is not the first time this season that the Cowboys were dealt and embarrassing loss, as they were trounced earlier in the year to the San Francisco 49ers. Gronk may be giving them a warning for the playoffs as the Cowboys should play many games on the road if they want to find themselves in the most important game of the year, and so far in the regular season, they have proved they can be amazing at home but not so much when they travel.
Dallas Cowboys Need Mental Strength If They Want To Go Far In The Playoffs
The Cowboys and Dak Prescott specifically, have been having a great season overall. While the Dallas fanbase is always thinking Super Bowl, this year they have actually been looking like real contenders at many points throughout the year. However Gronk and others have highlighted that the Cowboys can’t seem to find the same fire when they go on the road. In a recent Sports Illustrated article, head Coach Mike McCarthy was quoted saying:
“We did not play well,”… “There’s just too big of a gap in (our play on the road vs. at home). We gotta be much better on the road.”
Coach McCarthy is right, they are going to need to play much better on the road come playoff time if they want to reach their ultimate goals this year. That game may have taken any MVP chances Dak had for the year, but the real prize is still ahead of them. I’m sure many of the Cowboy’s players are looking at all the commentary going around today and I hope it lights a fire under them. The team has had ups and downs but when they are at their best they are truly scary to everyone in the league.
Either Dallas will dig deep and take a look in the mirror this week, knowing that all of their goals are still in front of them, or they will continue to prove Gronk right in showing the NFL world that they are mentally soft and can’t find the same juice when they go on the road.
