Travis Kelce is set to play in his fifth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
At 35, Kelce has won three Super Bowls and could earn a three-peat on Sunday. He’s earned All-Pro honors seven times and made 10 Pro Bowl appearances. The former Cincinnati standout has nothing to prove after surviving over a decade in the NFL at one of the league’s most physical positions.
Travis Kelce has thought about retirement
During his opening night press conference for the Super Bowl, Kelce was asked if is considering retirement after Sunday. Kelce answered that he thought about retiring, but still has too much fun playing the game.
”I’ve thought about it, but I still love what I do,” Kelce said via NFL Media. “It’s moments like these, weeks like these, the month that we just had in the playoffs that make me feel like I could play this game forever. I think I still got a lot of football left in me. I think this year has been one of the most special years of my life. I think it’s gonna continue to make me want to do more in the football world.”
Planning on staying with the Kansas City Chiefs
Following the Chiefs’ 25-22 Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce said he wanted to return for a chance to earn a three-peat. Kelce thinks he could be around for another one.
“Where will I be in three years? Hopefully still playing football,” Kelce said. “I love doing this. I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens. I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life.
“That’s always been the goal, knowing that football only lasts for so long. You’ve got to find a way to get into another career, another profession. I’ve been doing that in my offseasons. But for the most part, I’m planning on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
Three years is an eternity in the NFL. By then, Kelce will be 38. He might feel much different in 2028.
