Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has lit up the stat sheet the last two weeks. One common correlation seems to be the presence of his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
The newest celebrity couple has not only made waves across the NFL but the country as a whole. However, there is a notable difference in Kelce’s performance on the field when she goes to watch him play.
Read on to find out just how big of a difference this is.
Travis Kelce By The Numbers
Kelce has played in six games so far this season. Of those six games, Swift attended four of them. Most of these were home games in Week 3 vs. the Chicago Bears, Week 6 vs. the Denver Broncos, and Week 7 vs. the Los Angeles Chargers. Plus, Swift went to one road game in Week 4 against the New York Jets.
The biggest difference is with his receiving yards per game. When Taylor Swift is there, he averages 108 receiving yards per game. In contrast, he has just 46.5 receiving yards when she is not there.
The Chiefs’ most recent homestand has been particularly notable for this. He had 179 receiving yards and a touchdown reception in yesterday’s win over the Chargers. The week before, he had 124 receiving yards.
Another noticeable difference is his average yards per reception. Kelce averages at least 10 yards per reception when Taylor Swift is present. When she is not there, this goes down to 6.6 yards per reception.
The most important stat of all is wins. Kansas City is undefeated, with Swift in attendance.
However, you can argue that Kelce’s presence, in general, is important to the Chiefs winning football games. Travis Kelce had to miss the Chiefs’ first game against the Detroit Lions due to a knee injury.
They ended up losing that game. However, they are 6-0 when Kelce is on the field.
QB Patrick Mahomes certainly missed Kelce during that Week 1 loss. He had his second-fewest passing yards in a game this season in that opening game. He had 79 more passing yards in the very next game.
Off Of The Field
Swifties have made their presence known off of the field as well with Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. For starters, Kelce’s jersey sales increased by 400% after it was announced that he was dating Taylor Swift.
Plus, these fans watch games when she is in attendance. The Week 4 Sunday Night Football matchup against the New York Jets drew 27 million viewers for NBC. That is the most people to watch a Sunday TV show since the Super Bowl.
Kansas City goes on the road to face the Denver Broncos next week. Right now, it is unknown as to whether or not Taylor Swift will join Travis Kelce and the Chiefs on the road for that game. She has only gone to one road game so far.
After that, the Chiefs go to Frankfurt, Germany, to take on the Miami Dolphins. Swifties and perhaps sports bettors will anxiously wait to see what Taylor Swift decides to do for these next two games.
In the meantime, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs look to host a sixth straight AFC Championship and capture a third Super Bowl championship together.
