“In this game alone you’ve always been a step ahead of me. I have always had this flotation device right there. To have you out of it, it feels empty. And it definitely it feels like its complete. It was a success.”
Travis emotionally goes on to speak about the journey that they have had and how he showed him the way. Overall, the message was appreciation. Not only does Travis appreciate Jason, but Jason also says how much he appreciates Travis.
Jason Kelce Retirement
Jason Kelce announced his retirement on Monday. He was one of the best to ever suit up for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jason may have been the best center to have ever played the game and truly changed the game of football. His ability to move as a pulling center was unmatched and Jalen Hurts got credit for the “Tush Push” play, but Kelce made the engine run.
Jason Kelce’s retirement speech will live on forever. One that encapsulates a career full of emotion. The full annotated speech can be found in the Philadelphia Enquirer, and the video can be found on the Eagles website. It is worth a look.
Some highlights to share from Jason Kelce’s retirement speech:
“But I am lucky. My whole life, I have been surrounded by people who have believed in me. My father, my mother, my brother, Paul, Howard Mudd, and in my darkest hours in Philadelphia, Stout was the one who believed in me. He was adamant my problems could be fixed with proper technique, fundamentals, and work. And work we did.”
“The NFL is truly like no other place and represents America as a whole like no other. Fat offensive linemen from Cleveland play on the same field as skinny wide receivers from Louisiana. DeVonta Smith, aka Skinny Batman, is originally from Amite City, LA. And kickers from Chicago, Jake Elliott, is from Western Springs, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.
Tight ends from Stanford play next to tackles from Kilgore Community College. Lane Johnson spent a year at Kilgore before heading to Oklahoma. Defensive ends from inner-city Detroit—Brandon Graham hails from the Motor City—play next to defensive tackles from Yazoo City, Mississippi. That’s Fletcher Cox’s hometown.
Six-foot-nine Jordan Mailata. Technically, the Eagles list the Aussie at six-foot-eight. plays the same sport as four-foot-eight Darren Sproles. To be fair to Sproles, now a scout with the Eagles, the former running back is actually five-foot-six.”
“Thank you, Philadelphia, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for letting me represent this city and allowing me into your homes every Sunday. It has truly been a privilege. You have all been so good to me and my family.”
Travis Kelce Retirement
Rumors circulated whether or not Travis Kelce would retire after his third Super Bowl victory. The rumors quickly ended when Travis spoke on his desire to win a third consecutive Super Bowl, fourth overall.
Travis has been a three-time Super Bowl champion (LIV, LVII, LVIII), four-time first-team All-Pro (2016, 2018, 2020, 2022), three-time second-team All-Pro (2017, 2019, 2021), to the Pro Bowl nine times (2015–2023), and named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Some would say he has accomplished enough.
Travis Kelce is entering the last year of his contract. He just completed his 11th year in the NFL, and some may wonder if this will be it for Travis.
