EA Sports College Football is almost upon us. The highly anticipated game is making its return after 11 years and we’re looking at the Nebraska Huskers team and all the video game glory that they bring. There will be a lot of returning game modes from the 2013 version of the game and fans could probably expect a lot of new features with the ever-changing landscape of college football.
Football fanatics will have their hands full once the game is released this summer, but if you’re like me, the first thing you’re going to do is load up a game with the Nebraska Huskers. It’s an exciting time for the program as they look to begin building off their strong recruiting class and momentum from the previous season.
So with that being said, let’s take a look at the top 5 players on the Husker roster that we’re looking forward to playing as.
5. Blackshirts Defense
It was officially announced that neither head coaches nor coordinators will be in the upcoming game. This is a big let down for fans that were hoping to see their favorite coaches standing on the sideline. It’s even worse for Nebraska fans as their eyes were shining by the light of well known defensive coordinator Tony White. White brought his 3-3-5 defense to Nebraska last season under Matt Rhule’s first season and had immediate success. Nebraska’s defense was absolutely shut down, despite what people may think after looking at their record. Nebraska was ranked near the top in rushing defense throughout most of the season and they beat several stats records that had not been topped in over 10 years.
The 3-3-5 defense is a very hard to try and run, let alone trying to stop it. It features a unrelentless pass rush, almost never coming from the same spot. Linebackers, corners, nickels, will all come from different areas attempting to confuse the quarterback. Tony White was almost snatched away for the UCLA head coaching job before dismissing the rumors and confirming he was “All N!” and Husker fans around the country will love using his playbook and becoming one of the top defenses in the country.
4. Gabe Ervin – RB for Huskers
Gabe Ervin’s 2023 season was unfortunately cut short after sustaining a season ending injury during the Husker’s 3rd game of the season. But that doesn’t mean Nebraska fans didn’t see a glimpse of what could be in store for the future of our running back room. The Big 10 is a very physical league and a run game is a MUST. Having somebody who can pound the ball and run in between the tackles will be very nice during those cold, harsh November/December Big 10 games and Ervin fits the bill perfectly.

He’s got enough speed to hit the gaps and disappear before defenders can grab on and he’s got enough power to lower his shoulder and send you into next week. When defenses are getting lazy and playing the pass, Husker fans will be able to use Gabe Ervin to demoralize opponents on the way to a victory.
3. Nash Hutmacher – DT for Huskers
After watching him wrestle for Nebraska, who wouldn’t want to play as the Polar Bear?!?

The 6’4, 330 lb defensive lineman is an absolute specimen and is the heart and soul behind the Nebraska defense. For good reason too. The defensive tackle finished the 2023 season with four and a half sacks and eight tackles for loss. His explosive athleticism makes him a centerpiece on any rebuilding team with his ability to clog the trenches, stuff the run, and pressure the quarterback. He loves his school and he loves his program and the state of Nebraska sure loves him too. Husker fans around the world will get to watch Hutmacher making plays all over the virtual field, hopefully giving them a preview of what’s to come in the fall.
2. Carter Nelson & Thomas Fidone – TEs for Huskers
Thomas Fidone is the perfect video game tight end. Adding the number 3 tight end in the country Carter Nelson to the mix? Watch out, this might be one of the most loaded tight end rooms in the country with potential. Nelson stands at 6’4 with unreal athletic stats for his size. 7’0 high jump, ran sprints AND did throwing in track.
Obviously things have to unfold on the field and Nelson will have to get used to higher levels of talent, but this does not matter when it comes to video games. Nebraska has run a lot of double tight end formations so fans should have fun scheming up different plays to try and get Nelson into the open field.
Thomas Fidone shows just as much promise. He stands at a very strong 6’5 with a very built frame. Injuries have sidelined him in his first couple years in college but he was very highly recruited. Having a 1-2 punch with Nelson and Fidone will be deadly and will give opponents nightmares on coverages.
Here’s a little sneak peak at what fans could be seeing on their TVs come Summer 2025.
Get used to seeing this, Nebraska fans.

1. Dylan Raiola – QB
This one goes without being said. One of the biggest recruits in Nebraska football history, Raiola has the potential to change the entire landscape of Nebraska football. The #1 QB in the country chose Nebraska after originally committing to a few other places but that didn’t stop Lincoln from embracing him right away. And you can see why. Raiola has a cannon for an arm and makes high caliber throws look effortless. This is something that is going to immediately translate onto the virtual field.
Since he is a freshman, Husker fans shouldn’t expect a crazy high rating straight out of the gate, but there is no doubt that he will be one of the more electric players on the Nebraska roster. Husker fans around the country should have a great head start rebuilding their dynasties with this guy under center.
It’s a long wait until games start in August, but fans across the country are counting on EA Sports College Football to help bridge that gap. Nebraska fans all across the state and country will have no problem playing out their own dynasty, hoping to bring Nebraska back to their former glory.
