Suppose there is one easy way to get into the headlines and get social media attention. In that case, it is to associate yourself with Donald Trump, and former Dallas Cowboys star QB and current CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo has done just that. Ahead of a speech at a National Rifle Association (NRA) convention, Donald Trump was seen golfing with Tony Romo on a course in Dallas.
Trump said the following at the convention:
“I played golf today with a really good golfer: Tony Romo. Do you know Tony Romo? He may be a better golfer than a football player. I don’t know.”
Social Media Reacts to Romo Playing Golf With Donald Trump
Even though the election is still more than six months away, Donald Trump has been front and center of American politics, particularly as he has been on trial the past few weeks. Things have gotten so crazy that it almost doesn’t matter who he associates with or what they do; everything becomes a political statement.
Following the news that Romo had been playing golf with the former and hopeful President of the United States, social media quickly took sides. Not a single person out there had the takeaway that two guys decided to go golf.

What does a celebrity like @tonyromo have to do to lose my respect? Hanging out with #DonaldTrump….. does it for me. It tells me who you really are.

Tony Romo and Donald Trump had a fun day out on the golf course in Dallas. Who would've thought that a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and a former President would find common ground over a game of golf? I guess it's true what they say, politics and sports do make for strange… pic.twitter.com/dIUO30jmuI

Aside From Football and Broadcasting, Romo is an Avid Golfer
Tony Romo is not new to golf. Since retiring in 2017, he has competed in multiple tournaments, including a U.S. Open qualifier in 2023. Back in 2023, Tony Romo played with Scottie Scheffler, who is now ranked in the top five in the world.
Currently, Romo is on the outside looking in of trying to get his PGA card. He has been competing consistently in Korn Ferry Tour events, equivalent to triple-A baseball or the NBA G-League. For Romo to qualify for the PGA, he would have to finish three stages of a Korn Ferry Tour event and finish in the top five or be tied for fourth in the Final Round.
Romo’s current world ranking is 1,858.
