The New York Jets have announced that Tim Boyle will be the starting quarterback in their Friday Night matchup against the Miami Dolphins. New York benched Zach Wilson during the third quarter of their 6-32 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Despite the odds stacked against him, Boyle never gave up on his dream of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.
The New York Jets QB started his collegiate career in Connecticut.
Boyle committed to the UConn Huskies for the 2013 season. He appeared in five games and made four starts in his freshman season. He went 59/133 for 621 yards, and eight interceptions.
Boyle appeared in nine games and started the last three in his sophomore season. He went 43/82 for 335 yards, one passing touchdown, and three interceptions.

Boyle transferred to a new team.
Boyle transferred to Eastern Kentucky after the 2015 season. He was ineligible to play for the 2016 season. He started in every game during the 2017 season. He went 201/327 for 2,134 yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Boyle spent his first three years with Green Bay.
Boyle went undrafted during the 2018 NFL Draft. Green Bay signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 4. After an impressive preseason, he made the 53-man roster as the team’s third-stringer behind Aaron Rodgers and DeShone Kizer. He didn’t appear in any games during his rookie season.
Boyle took over as the backup quarterback during the 2019 season. He appeared in three games. He saw limited action in their loss to the San Francisco 49ers, going 3/4 for 15 yards, and kneeled in two other games.
Boyle appeared in eight games during the 2020 season, mostly during blowouts and to kneel. Green Bay did not tender him during the 2021 offseason.
Boyle found a new team in 2021.
Boyle signed a 1-year deal with the Detroit Lions during the 2021 offseason. Detroit placed him on IR with a broken thumb to start the season.
Detroit activated him on November 20 and made his first career start in Week 11 for the injured Jared Goff. He went 15/23 for 77 passing yards and two interceptions in their 10-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
He got his second start in Week 16 because Goff tested positive for COVID and missed the next two weeks. He went 24/34 for 187 yards, one passing touchdown, and one interception in their 16-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
He got his third start in Week 17. He went 22/37 for 262 yards, two passing touchdowns, and three interceptions in their 29-51 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Boyle finished the season 61/94 for 526 yards, three passing touchdowns, and six interceptions, with a 0-3 record.
Boyle’s 2022 season.
Detroit signed him to a 1-year extension on March 14. They released him on August 30 and signed him to the practice squad.
Chicago signed him off the Lions practice squad on November 30. He appeared in one game. He went 2/8 for 33 yards and two interceptions.
Boyle reunited with a former teammate.
Boyle signed with the New York Jets on April 6, 2023, to be with Aaron Rodgers. New York released him on August 29 but signed him to the practice squad. He got promoted to the active roster after Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1.
What to expect?
Expect Tim Boyle to struggle on Friday Night because the Jets have one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Depending on how things go, there is a possibility he will remain the starter until Aaron Rodgers potentially comes back from his injury.
Good luck, Tim Boyle! You’re going to need it.
