The Seattle Seahawks Have Designated Their Second-Year Cornerback for Return from Injured Reserve-No Guarantee He Starts

The Seattle Seahawks have designated starting cornerback Coby Bryant for return from injured reserve. Bryant has a 21-day window to practice with the team before Seattle can activate him off injured reserve. Bryant hasn’t played a game since Week 2 because of a toe injury.

The Seattle Seahawks corner played college ball at Cincinnati

Bryant committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats for the 2017 season. Bryant primarily played on special teams, recording four tackles.

Bryant took over as the starting cornerback in his sophomore season. He suffered a fractured hand in September but played the last nine games in a cast. He had 33 tackles, two interceptions, nine pass deflections, and one forced fumble.

Bryant had 54 tackles, 2.5 for loss, one interception, and eight pass deflections in his junior season. He was named to the 2019 AAC All-Academic Team.

Bryant had 35 tackles, one for a loss, four interceptions, seven pass deflections, and one forced fumble during his senior season. He was named to the 2020 First-Team All-AAC. Since the NCAA allowed an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic, Bryant decided to return to Cincinnati for his final season in 2021.

Bryant had 44 tackles, 1.5 for loss, three interceptions, one pick-six, 11 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles in his final season. He was named to the 2021 First-Team All-AAC, AP All-American Second-Team, and the Jim Thorpe Award winner. The Jim Thorpe Award recognizes the nation’s top defensive back. Bryant was the second non-Power 5 player to win the award.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Kobe Bryant in the 4th round, 109th overall, in the 2022 NFL Draft. He slid in the draft because he tested poorly in the pre-draft process, he ran a slow 40 time at 4.54, he has issues with physicality, and struggled at tackling.

Bryant’s rookie season

Bryant appeared in every game and started in six during his rookie season. He had 70 tackles, four for loss, two sacks, four pass deflections, and four forced fumbles. He went 54/72 for 657 passing yards and three touchdowns with a 116.5 passer rating in coverage.

Bryant’s second season

Bryant started the season as the starting cornerback. Bryant has 11 tackles and is 9/10 for 77 passing yards with a 98.7 passer rating in the first two games.

Will Bryant have a role in Seattle?

Don’t expect Coby Bryant to start once he’s activated off injured reserve. Devon Witherspoon and Tariq Woolen are locked in the secondary, and Tre Brown has been playing great in place of Bryant’s absence and isn’t going to give up his spot.

Bryant will only get playing time if one of their starting cornerbacks gets injured or if any of them struggles.
