“The Offense Was A Cruel Joke”: Michigan Wolverines Get Surprising BIG10 Ranking Despite Horrid 2024 College Football Season

The Michigan Wolverines after winning the National Championship during the 2023 college football season took a massive step backwards during the 2024 college football season. They finished with a 7-5 record during the college football season, but they were able to dethrone the Ohio State Buckeyes for the fourth consecutive season when Michigan won the game 13-10.

The Wolverines in 2025 under head coach Sherrone Moore will look to be a lot better and contend for a playoff spot. There is a chance that the BIG10 conference will have at least four teams in the college football playoffs. Where is Michigan going to be ranked in the conference ahead of the 2025 season?

Michigan Wolverines Ranked Fourth In BIG10 Conference After Spring Ball

CBS Sports writer Tom Fornelli wrote about the BIG10 conference rankings after spring football. To no surprise, the Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked first, the Penn State Nittany Lions are ranked second, and the Oregon Ducks are ranked third. Fornelli has the Wolverines ranked fourth in the conference and it is a little surprising that they are ranked ahead of the Indiana Hoosiers and the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Fornelli said about Michigan being ranked fourth,

“Think of how horrible things went for the Wolverines last season. The offense was a cruel joke, and the QB situation was enough to make a MAC team blush. Yet, despite all of it, the Wolverines won eight games, including wins over Ohio State and Alabama. Yes, the team loses some studs on defense, but if the offense improves and the defense retools successfully, how far away is this team from winning 10 or more games? (+900)”

Michigan will have a favorable schedule for the 2025 season. Of course, they will be going for a fifth straight win against the Buckeyes. The game will be played in Ann Arbor, Michigan this season and it was at Columbus, Ohio last season. The Wolverines have a chance to better on offense because of five-star recruit quarterback Bryce Underwood.

If Michigan misses the playoffs in 2025, there is a chance that Moore’s job could be in danger. The Wolverines have to win at least nine games if not more during the regular season. They also have to beat the Michigan State Spartans in 2025 and make noise in the BIG10 Conference also.
