The Ohio State Buckeyes did not win the BIG10 Conference during the 2024 college football season. The Oregon Ducks won the conference against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the BIG10 championship game.

However, Ohio State won the national championship against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish despite a 10-2 record during the 2024 college football regular season. The Buckeyes will look to be at the top of the conference during the 2025 college football season. Even if they don’t win the conference, Ohio State will most likely be in the college football playoff field again.

CBS Sports writer Tom Fornelli ranked the 18 teams in the BIG10 Conference from best to worst. To no surprise, he had Ohio State at number one in these rankings. Despite losing a lot of talent to the NFL, the Buckeyes return a lot of top players. Fornelli said,

“I know there are plenty of questions surrounding the team with the number of losses it took, but the Buckeyes are the defending national champions. They have Jeremiah Smith. They have Caleb Downs. We don’t know who the quarterback is yet, but he’ll probably be pretty good because *gestures towards the recent run of results from Ohio State QBs*. They might not win the league, and they probably won’t win another natty. But they’re the reigning national champions until knocked off the mountain. (+210)”

Smith and Downs will be the two best players by far on Ohio State’s roster next season. Julian Sayin will most likely be the starting quarterback over Lincoln Keinholz. The Buckeyes will just reload and win a bunch of games during the 2025 season. The game that will decide if they potentially win the conference or not in 2025 will be against the Michigan Wolverines on the road.
