The Carolina Panthers have designated up-and-coming cornerback Jaycee Horn for return from the injured reserve. He has 21 days to practice with the team before Carolina can activate him on the active roster. Horn hasn’t placed since Week 1 due to a hamstring injury.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Jaycee Horn in the 1st round, 8th overall of the 2021 NFL Draft. Patrick Surtain II, Greg Newsome, and Tyson Campbell were notable cornerbacks drafted after him. He signed a 4-year, $21,112,146 rookie contract with a $12,714,288 signing bonus and $21,112,146 guaranteed on June 15, 2021.

Horn started the first three games of his rookie season, recording five tackles, one interception, and one pass deflection. He went 2/7 for 18 yards and one touchdown with a 39.6 passer rating allowed in pass coverage. Horn suffered a season-ending foot injury after fracturing it in Week 3. Carolina placed him on injured reserve on September 27.

Horn started the first 13 games of his second season, recording 53 tackles, two for loss, one quarterback hit, three interceptions, and seven pass deflections. He went 33/60 for 429 yards and one touchdown allowed with a 62.4 passer rating in coverage. Horn suffered a broken wrist, and Carolina placed him on season-ending injured reserve on December 25, 2022.

Horn appeared in only one game so far

Horn suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1. Carolina placed him on injured reserve on September 15, 2023, missing the next eight games.

Carolina gets significant help on defense

Getting Horn back is good news for the Panthers’ defense. Carolina’s defense has dealt with many injuries halfway through the 2023 season.

Middle linebacker Shaq Thompson suffered a broken fibula in Week 2. Carolina placed him on season-ending injured reserve on September 19.

Starting safety Xavier Woods suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and missed Weeks 4-6.

Cornerback Donte Jackson suffered a shoulder injury in Week 4 and missed Week 5.

Starting safety Xavier Woods suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and missed Weeks 4-6 with a hamstring injury.

Starting safety Vonn Bell suffered a quadriceps injury in Week 5 and missed Weeks 6-8.

Nickelback’s Jeremy Chinn landed on injured reserve on October 24 due to a quadriceps injury he sustained in Week 7. He is expected to miss six weeks and will likely return before Week 14.

Horn’s replacement, CJ Henderson, missed Week 10 with a concussion.

Hopefully, the 1-8 Panthers can stay healthy for the rest of the season. Horn is a talented corner who hasn’t stayed healthy in his first three seasons.

Give him time because he is going to be a stud in the NFL.
