The Texas Longhorns lost to the Washington Huskies in a very entertaining College Football Playoff game. After the Huskies left the door open for the Longhorns, Texas had a drive to win the game. They ultimately came up short due to some questionable playcalling by Steve Sarkisian who took some heat after the game.
Texas Longhorns Steve Sarkisian Ripped For Play Calls
There were a couple of questionable play calls on the final drive. A dump-off to Jaydon Blue that resulted in a loss of a yard left fans scratching their heads. Then a corner blitz completely discombobulated the offensive line leaving the Longhorns with one second left. A final pass was batted away out of bounds. Even earlier in the drive, the play calls didn’t seem right. Fans blasted the head coach on social media.
Steve Sarkisian, what were those play calls????

Absolute ATROCIOUS play calling from Steve Sarkisian from the 10 yard line with everything on the line #sugarbowl #TexasLonghorns pic.twitter.com/qfc4sHxiKQ

4 plays to get 12 yards. 4 plays to win (potentially). 4 terrible play calls from Steve Sarkisian

That was an absolute choke in play calling for Sarkisian. No idea what he was thinking, but it didn’t work by a mile. #SugarBowl

Still A Great Season From Texas
This is exactly the type of game you want as a college football fan. While we can nitpick the final play calls, Texas showed that they belong in the College Football Playoff. It has been a long time since the Longhorns had a shot at a national title. During the game, they showed Texas legend Vince Young on the sidelines and he had gray in his beard showing how long it has been since the program has been in the mix.
Can the Texas Longhorns sustain their success into next season? Having Quinn Ewers back should help but a move to the SEC means that they will have a very tough schedule in 2024.
