The Texas Longhorns are one of four teams in this year’s College Football Playoff. Today, they get set to take on the Washington Huskies. Texas secured the #3 seed for this semi-final showdown. However, despite having an impressive resume to make the College Football Playoff, sports bettors have little faith in them to win it all.
Texas Longhorns Have the Fewest Championship Bets
According to John Ewing of BetMGM, the Texas Longhorns have the fewest future bets to win the national championship of any of the four College Football Playoff teams. They hold just 6.8% of all future bets on BetMGM. This includes the Michigan Wolverines, Washington Huskies, and the Alabama Crimson Tide. What is more surprising about this is Alabama made the College Football Playoff in controversial fashion.
Eliminated Teams Have More Future Bets
On top of having the fewest future national championship bets of the teams in the College Football Playoff, there are a few eliminated teams that still have more future bets. This exemplifies the lack of faith that sports bettors currently have in the Texas Longhorns. So, which teams are still outshining Texas?
The first is the Georgia Bulldogs. Many people felt like the Bulldogs would win it all if they made the national championship. Unfortunately, for these bettors, Georgia fell out of College Football Playoff contention after losing the SEC Championship to Alabama.
Georgia holds 7.5% of all future bets on BetMGM despite already being eliminated. Texas has not been able to make up ground since being eliminated. Georgia bettors may feel the sting even more considering they whooped Florida State 63-3 in the Orange Bowl.
The other team is the Ohio State Buckeyes. Believe it or not, they still hold 8.7% of all future bets. However, their playoff hopes died when they lost “The Game” against the Michigan Wolverines. Ohio State ended up losing the Cotton Bowl to the Missouri Tigers 14-3.
Texas Longhorns Are Still Semi-Final Favorites
Despite having few bets to win the national championship, sportsbooks still like Texas’ chances of beating the Washington Huskies. They are still four-point favorites over the Huskies. The line has seen virtually no movement since it was originally put out. Now, Texas will get a chance to prove their worth on the football field in the Sugar Bowl tonight.
