The 5th-ranked, 12-2 Texas Longhorns play against the 4th-ranked, 11-2 Arizona State Sun Devils for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, at noon. The winner of this game advances to Round 3. Either Texas or Arizona State will play against the winner of the Rose Bowl, either the Oregon Ducks or the Ohio State Buckeyes, for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday, January 10, at 6:30 P.M. CT.
Texas Longhorns’ star right tackle exited Round 1 with an injury
Longhorns’ star right tackle Cameron Williams suffered an apparent right knee injury in the second quarter against the Clemson Tigers after getting tangled up with running back Tre Wisner and a Clemson defender on a screen. Williams limped off the field and went directly into the medical tent for further examination. He later left the medical tent, and he did not return for the remainder of the game as redshirt freshman Trevor Goosby finished the afternoon.
He underwent an MRI, which determined that he avoided a significant knee injury and only suffered a knee sprain to his right knee. “Not as serious as we thought,” Steve Sarkisian said during Monday’s press conference on December 23. “That was more of a precautionary MRI, so we feel comfortable about that.”
The Longhorns’ star offensive tackle is not expected to play
Cameron Williams participated during the week of practice as a limited participant, and the Texas Longhorns listed him as a game-time decision. Unfortunately, he will miss the first game of the season. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Williams will not play against the Arizona State Sun Devils. As Thamel points out, Trevor Goosby will start in his place.
Texas right tackle Cameron Williams is unlikely to play today for the Longhorns, per ESPN sources. He’s dealing with a right knee sprain and has been limited. Look for redshirt freshman Trevor Goosby to get the start at right tackle. https://t.co/h5o72rhXzi
