The blows keep coming for the Texas A&M Aggies. In the first couple of days of the transfer portal being open, the program has lost many former five-star recruits who are looking for a new home after Jimbo Fisher was fired. This morning, another offensive weapon is heading to the portal. Tight end Jake Johnson announced that he is entering the transfer portal.

Texas A&M TE Jake Johnson Enters Tranfer Portal
In his two years with the program, Johnson has caught 25 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Coming out of high school, he was the nation’s number one ranked tight end and the seventh overall recruit in the state of Georgia. The Aggies were hoping that he could develop into a dominant offensive force and propel the Aggies to the top of the SEC. With all of these players leaving we forget how good of a recruiter Jimbo Fisher was.
Good Recruiting, Bad Coaching
Fisher was able to land gobs of five-star talent in recruiting. It didn’t matter which side of the ball. The offense and defense were filled with top-tier talent. It goes to show that recruiting is one thing but getting wins on the field is another. Having the best talent or the top recruiting class doesn’t automatically mean appearances in the College Football Playoff are guaranteed. It shows how poor of a job Fisher did with the talent that he had.
New head coach Mike Elko has his work cut out for him. As the mass exodus continues, he is going to have to figure out how to fill out the roster in 2024.
