The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the worst pass defenses in the league, allowing the 5th-most completions, the 6th-most attempts, the 4th-most yards, the 12th-most touchdowns, and the 3rd-most passing first downs in 2023.
One position in particular that struggled last season was the starting safety position that lined up on the opposite side of Antoine Winfield Jr.
The team addressed the position in free agency by signing a familiar face.

According to Ian Rapoport, Tampa signed Jordan Whitehead to a 2-year $9 million contract worth up to $10.5 million.
Tampa Bay drafted Whitehead in the 4th round, 117th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He played in 59 games, starting in 55, and had 292 tackles, 22 for a loss, five interceptions, 25 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles in his first four seasons with Tampa Bay.
He spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets.
Jordan Whitehead spent the last two seasons in New York.
Whitehead signed a 2-year, $14.5 million contract with New York in 2022. He played in 34 games, starting in 34, and had 186 tackles, seven for a loss, six interceptions, and 17 pass deflections in his two seasons with the team.
Whitehead had 89 tackles, four for a loss, two interceptions, and eight pass deflections in 2022. He allowed 23 receptions on 43 targets for 301 yards, three touchdowns, and an 81.5 passer rating.
Whitehead had 97 tackles, three for a loss, four interceptions, and nine pass deflections in 2023. He allowed 21 receptions on 38 targets for 280 yards, seven touchdowns, and a 78.8 passer rating.
