The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enjoyed a fantastic 2023 season, winning the NFC South and pulling off a postseason victory before falling to the Detroit Lions last weekend. Behind the team’s offensive success was a resurgent year from first overall pick turned journeyman Baker Mayfield, who threw for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns against ten picks.
First-year offensive coordinator Dave Canales engineered the offense, leading to him becoming the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers. With the offensive coordinator position now vacant, the Bucs plan on bringing in a former longtime NFL coach for an interview next week. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Tampa Bay will interview former Buffalo Bills play caller Ken Dorsey.
Ken Dorsey: Former Buffalo Bills OC
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will bring Ken Dorsey in for an interview next week. He operated as the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator this season before being fired after ten games. Quarterbacks coach Joe Brady took over the play-calling duties. The Bills failed to break 25 points in Dorsey’s last six games, with quarterback Josh Allen struggling with turnovers. They scored 32 points in the game following Dorsey’s firing.

The former Miami Hurricanes quarterback also called plays for the Bills in 2022. They finished the season second in points scored and yardage. Before calling plays, Dorsey worked as the team’s quarterbacks coach since 2019, working with Allen. The quarterback’s only season rated under 85 came without Dorsey on staff.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Fresh Off Surprising Finish
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the season 9-8, winning the NFC South and clinching a home game during Super Wild Card Weekend. The Bucs dominated the Philadephia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs, beating them 32-9. Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 337 yards and three scores against no picks. However, Tampa Bay fell to the Detroit Lions in the following round, 31-23. The Bucs must find a new offensive coordinator, with Dave Canales darting for the Carolina Panthers.
Mayfield, who posted near career numbers this season, will have yet another offensive coordinator, an unfortunate trend for the signal-caller. The newest OC for the Bucs will mark his eighth in as many years. He went through four separate signal callers during his time with the Browns.
