The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally settled their long-standing QB issues after tying Baker Mayfield at a massive contract that will see him play for the Bucs in the foreseeable future.
While there will always be voices that question whether the decision to pay Mayfield at least $30 million every season is the right decision, it’s hard to deny that he had a fantastic synergy with the offense being played in Tampa.
With Mayfield’s job security over the next three years no longer an issue, his wife went forward on her social media to give her two cents on the issue.
Emily and Baker Mayfield are excited to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Spun’s Andrew Holleran wrote a piece about Emily Mayfield’s reaction to the news that her husband won a big contract with the Bucs after leading them to a surprising playoff run last season.
She reposted the news of her husband’s new contract with the Bucs with multiple heart emojis, showing how much she enjoys living in Tampa and seeing her husband play his best football with a team that properly appreciates his talents.
Baker Mayfield is also eager to continue his good run of form with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
“I wanted a chance to come back,” Mayfield said, per ESPN. “I love coach Bowles and the staff. I’m happy to be here and I want to win more in the postseason.”
Will Baker Mayfield lead the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl appearance?
Mayfield has come far from being the quarterback who was chased out of the Cleveland Browns a couple of years ago. While his stints with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams didn’t merit much changes, his strong performances there allowed him to get a shot with the Buccaneers.
While many thought his year with the Bucs would serve as a bridge to the team’s next young QB, he took his shot and ran away with the starting QB role. In his first year with the Bucs, Mayfield passed for 4044 yards and 28 TDs for a career-high 64.3% pass completion and a 94.6 average QB rating.
The comparisons to Geno Smith in his 2022 breakout are completely understandable, but Tampa Bay fans will be hoping that he doesn’t experience the same second-year slump Smith went through after bagging a fantastic contract with the Seahawks.
