Babers has spent the past eight seasons with the Syracuse football team but has led the Orange to just one win in their last seven games. Syracuse started the season 4-0 but is now in danger of not being bowl-eligible.
Syracuse Football: Dino Babers Fired After Eight Seasons
After two winning seasons as the Bowling Green State Falcons frontman, Dino Babers landed the head gig with the Syracuse Orange football team in 2016. Babers led the Orange to back-to-back four-win campaigns before breaking out with a 10-3 season in 2018. That season’s rendition of the Syracuse Orange football team scored 40.2 points per game, led by 22 passing touchdowns from quarterbacks Eric Dungey and Tommy DeVito. However, Babers and Syracuse never matched the success from 2018, failing to win more than seven games in the next five seasons, including 2023.
The last two seasons have had starch similarities, including their late-season woes. The 2022 Syracuse Orange started the season 6-0 before losing six of their next seven. The 2023 Syracuse Orange began the year 4-0 before losing six of their next seven again.
The Syracuse Orange: Rest of Season Outlook
The Syracuse Orange will look to bounce back from their 31-22 loss against the Georgie Tech Yellow Jackets. The Orange must beat the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the regular season finale to become bowl-eligible.
Syracuse continues to deal with injuries regarding their quarterbacks. Third-year star Garrett Shrader did not attempt a pass yesterday while dealing with an injury limiting his throwing ability. Meanwhile, backup Carlos Del Rio-Wilson didn’t travel to Georgia Tech with an undisclosed injury.
