“ They’re gonna get a Super Bowl out of me “
As stated by Falcons draft pick Quarterback Desmond Ridder
Extremely bold statement for someone who hasn’t taken a single snap in the Nfl, let alone training camp. Every young quarterback has the dream of holding their child, confetti raining down guaranteeing their 4-year-old son a trip to Disney land. All have the dream, some bold enough to guarantee it.
A lot of times star quarterbacks in high regard coming out of college are thrown on desperate teams coming off of a miserable season, not one bit set for success putting the young Quarterback in a tornado situation. We shouldn’t say Ridder and Mariota are put in a tornado situation. The Falcons have made their strides in becoming a better team. Not viewed as a threat for a division title in the NFC south and maybe not a playoff team but it wouldn’t be blasphemy for the Falcons to sneak a Wildcard spot.As a side note Jameis Winston returns after having a solid role for the Saints before the injury, Tom Brady I retired and Baker Mayfield is inserted into the division for the Panthers but the team still isn’t viewed as a major threat.
They (Falcons) kicked their draft off drafting Drake London who is viewed as the best receiver in the draft he’ll compliment Tight end Kyle Pitts who’s been a monster fit for the Falcons. Cordalle Paterson resigned and’s been a solid Back for the team. Matt Ryan might never have been viewed as a top 5 quarterback but his presence was undeniable as a Falcon. And despite a Super Bowl loss will certainly have his name in the rafters and be remembered as an all-time Falcon great.
Drafted by the Titans in 2015 Marcus Mariota was viewed as a desperate need for the Titans, the team bounced from a variety of quarterbacks years prior. The Titans combined for 5 wins in 2014 and 2015. Marcus Mariota dramatically improved the Titans to 9-7 despite missing the playoffs. In his second season, he lead the Titans to the division playoff game where the wild card round saw a miraculous comeback than a beat down from Brady and the Patriots in Foxborough. With a win and in a playoff game the Titans got smashed by the Colts in week 17 missing the playoffs. It started to become apparent that Mariota didn’t have bright light shine, meaning his ability to shine under brighter lights. In his final full season with the Titans, they once again missed the playoffs. They started the 2019 season with Mariota and after a few games of struggle insert Ryan Tannehill and you know the rest. Mariota showed some flash and highlight reels for the Titans but he was never able to take them to that next level. Sent to the Raiders in 2 seasons Mariota had 230 yds 1 TD and 1 interception never starting over Carr at any point and time disregarding a meaningless garbage game late in the season.
Mariota signed a 2 year 18.75 M dollar deal with the Falcons this off-season. He desperately looks to revitalize his career showing many he belongs as a week-to-week quarterback and can take his team to the next level. All signs point to Mariota being favored over Desmond Ridder to start week one. Which in all honestly would be a betting man’s best throw. Mariota still young will have a 2nd shot that some quarterbacks don’t get in the NFL on a different team who will have some pretty solid options around him. On the other side of the locker room Desmond Ridder the young hungry quarterback who despite undoubtedly supporting Mariota, in the back of his mind salivating at a chance to sling one to Kyle Pitts for a touchdown.
Will Mariota still be at the forefront come snowfall in the tri-state and turkey day, barring any injury it’ll be strictly performance-based for the young quarterback desperate to rewrite his script in the Nfl? They often say words can come back to haunt you in the event of Desmond Ridder being summoned on the turf he made a general statement saying “ their gonna get a SUPERBOWL out of me “ it’s all fun and games Desmond until Aaron’s Donald sends you to mars and your staring at the ceiling lights. What’s that saying again
Don’t make promises you can’t keep?
