Sit Patrick Mahomes In Fantasy Football This Week

When drafting a fantasy football team, it is always nice to have the position that you don’t have to worry about. You draft a top player like Justin Jefferson or Travis Kelce and you never have to worry about whether you are starting that player or not. They are in your starting lineup no matter what. Patrick Mahomes is usually that type of player. This week however, I believe you should sit Patrick Mahomes in fantasy football.

    Patrick Mahomes Last Week

Outside of week 1, Mahomes’ numbers have been rather pedestrian. In week 2 against the Chargers, he only threw for 235 yards. He did have a couple of touchdowns which helped his fantasy output. In week 3 against the Colts, his numbers were similar but only 1 touchdown and adding in an interception made his fantasy output worse. The offense looks to be going through some growing pains without Tyreek Hill. However, this is less about the Chiefs and more about their opponent.

Sit Patrick Mahomes In Fantasy Football Against The Bucs

This is the main reason you should sit Patrick Mahomes in fantasy football this week. The Bucs defense has been suffocating this season. I referenced the okay quarterback stats against the Bucs defense on the Gridiron Heroics podcast and here they are.

Dak Prescott: 14-29 / 134 yards / 1 INT (He did leave with an injury in this game)

    Jameis Winston: 25-40 / 236 yards / 1 TD / 3 INT

    Aaron Rodgers: 27-35 / 255 yards / 2 TD / 1 INT

The Bucs defense has forced turnovers in every game this season. The quarterbacks have very okay numbers. Only allowing a quarterback to throw for 250 yards, especially Aaron Rodgers would be considered a win for every defense. It is also worth noting that a majority of those yards for Rodgers came on the first three drives. I don’t believe Mahomes will have a stinker of a game but his stats will just be okay. I think you can find more than okay in the quarterback position.

    Quarterback Depth

Most leagues run 1 quarterback. If you are in one with 2, then you probably do not have as many options. However, in a 1 quarterback league, there is probably someone on your bench or on waivers that have a better matchup. Jared Goff has been at the helm for one of the highest scoring offenses in the league. The Lions play Seattle who gave up a bunch of yardage to Marcus Mariota and the Falcons. Speaking of Mariota, the Falcons are playing Cleveland this week which isn’t a great matchup but Mariota has looked good this year. Both of these quarterbacks are most likely available in your leagues and have a higher ceiling than what I think Mahomes has.

Patrick Mahomes will have an okay day on Sunday. He isn’t going to lose you the week but he also won’t win the week for you. If you are confident in the rest of your team by all means start him. However, if you are in desperate need of a win consider a sit for Patrick Mahomes this week in fantasy football.
