Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay Opens Up About Concerning Alaric Jackson Health Issue: ‘You pray for him’

The Los Angeles Rams were not complete when they flew to Hawaii for the team’s mandatory minicamp. Among those who did not fly with the team was left tackle Alaric Jackson, and for an understandable reason. The veteran offensive lineman is reportedly dealing with blood clots in his lower leg, according to Rams head coach Sean McVay (h/t Sarah Barshop of ESPN).

“You pray for him to be able to have a healthy, safe recovery,” McVay shared. “And we’re really just taking it a day at a time with him. There’s a lot of examples of people that have had situations like this, but they’re all still so uniquely independent in their own right. And so we’re gathering information.”

As there is uncertainty at the moment about the status of Jackson, it’s hard to tell at the moment whether he’ll be ready in time for the Rams’ training camp.

Jackson, who signed a three-year, $57 million deal with Los Angeles last February, had blood clot issue in 2022 that caused him to miss the last nine games of the campaign.

Jackson deemed as Los Angeles Rams’ “make-or-break player” in 2025 NFL season

Jackson is a key component of the Rams’ offensive line that will play an extra crucial role in 2025, with an older Matthew Stafford still under center for the team. That is also why Jackson has been identified by Pro Football Focus as Los Angeles’ “make-or-break” player for the 2025 campaign.

“No current starting quarterback needs proficient pass protection as much as Matthew Stafford. That’s a huge reason why the Rams re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson to a three-year contract worth roughly $19 million per year. Unfortunately, Jackson is now dealing with a blood clot issue that puts his status in doubt, at least for the beginning of the 2025 season. The Rams ranked 30th in the NFL in PFF pass-blocking grade last season, and Jackson is arguably the most important part of a turnaround in the department.”
