The San Francisco 49ers signed a veteran defensive tackle on Tuesday. The move came a day after the 49ers were blown out by the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football.
Brock Purdy’s four-interception performance against the Ravens cost the 49ers a chance to win against the AFC’s best team. But the defense was far from perfect on a night the Ravens scored 33 points in San Francisco.
The 49ers have several interior defensive linemen battling injuries with two weeks left in the regular season. The Ravens exposed a potential existential problem for the 49ers in the playoffs. The 49ers added one player who could help them in the postseason.

Joseph-Day won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams, the team that drafted him in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Joseph-Day has three sacks this season.
His overall play for the Chargers this season wasn’t great. Pro Football Focus gave Joesph-Day a 59.7 overall grade for the first 16 weeks of the 2023 season. We’ll see if he can adapt and play better football in the 49ers defensive scheme this winter.
