The Seattle Seahawks have an important clash with the San Francisco 49ers today. Sitting with a 6-6 record, they are on the borderline to make the playoffs. Now, they received quarterback news that will make that task harder.
Seattle Seahawks Announce QB Drew Lock Is Starting
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Seattle Seahawks have announced that QB Drew Lock will start against the San Francisco 49ers. This will be his first start of the 2023 NFL season. It will be his third overall appearance this season.
How has Lock done in his prior two appearances? The stats will leave something to be desired. Lock is 4/12 with 66 passing yards and an interception.
This is Lock’s fifth year in the NFL. He started his career with the Denver Broncos. However, he was part of the Russell Wilson trade that sent him to the Seattle Seahawks. Some expected him to win the starting QB job available in 2022. However, it ultimately went to QB Geno Smith.
Geno Smith Is Out
With this announcement, it means that Smith is out for this game against the 49ers. Smith suffered a groin injury during practice earlier this week. Seattle held out hope that Smith could play and tried to wait until pregame warmups to make a final decision. Ultimately, Lock ended up getting the nod.
Given how Smith has played this season, Seattle will likely miss him against San Francisco. While it may not be quite like his 2022 NFL season, it is still respectable. Smith has 2,918 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes through 12 games.
