The Seattle Seahawks pass defense struggled last season, ranking 25th in receptions, 21st in yards, 10th in touchdowns, and 26th in passing first downs.
Despite their pass defense struggling last season, Seattle has two bright spots in Devon Witherspoon and Tariq Woolen. However, the left outside cornerback position is open, and no player is guaranteed the starting spot heading into the 2024 season.
Mookie Alexander of Field Gulls expects the Seahawks to draft a cornerback because they have only three under contract in 2025, and the draft class is talented.
“This isn’t to say the Seahawks will (nor should they) draft a cornerback with their first-round pick, but this is one of those positions that is “deep” for 2024 and that’s it. Seattle has immediate and long-term needs for interior offensive linemen, whereas cornerback is a position where it should be thinking ahead instead of waiting until the supply is short to do anything.”
The team has two left outside cornerbacks on their roster, including Tre Brown and the restricted free agent they re-signed today.
The Seattle Seahawks re-signed their RFA CB

Seattle placed an original-round tender on Michael Jackson. This tender is a one-year, $2.985 million non-guaranteed deal in which Jackson can sign offer sheets from other teams, and the Seahawks can match. They would receive a fifth-round pick (since Jackson was a fifth-round pick) if they decided not to match an offer sheet.
Ultimately, both parties agreed to the tender.
Michael Jackson spent the last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks

Seattle signed Jackson to the practice squad on September 2, 2021. Jackson played in two games with two tackles and two pass deflections.
Jackson won the starting LCB job heading into the 2022 season. Jackson played 17 games, starting 17, with 75 tackles, one interception, 12 pass deflections, and a 60.2 PFF Grade. He allowed 48 receptions on 86 targets for 488 yards, two touchdowns, and a 75.1 passer rating.
Jackson lost the starting job to Brown heading into the 2023 season. Jackson played 17 games, starting four, with 34 tackles, five pass deflections, and a 77.0 PFF Grade. He allowed 26 receptions on 37 targets for 306 yards and a 95.1 passer rating.
Mike Macdonald has a cornerback competition brewing on his hands

Depending on what the Seahawks will do for the remainder of free agency and the draft, the team will have a competition for the starting left cornerback spot. Michael Jackson will likely compete with Tre Brown and any cornerback they add for the starting job.
Ultimately, head coach Mike Macdonald and defensive coordinator Aden Durde will decide.
Will he regain the starting spot next season?
