Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith spent a couple of years being the backup to Russell Wilson. After the Denver Broncos traded for Wilson, Smith became the starter. He has found a lot of success and part of that is thanks to being in the room with Wilson every day. After the Broncos shockingly benched Wilson for the rest of the season, Smith took to social media to react to the decision.

Seattle Seahawks Geno Smith Reacts To Russell Wilson Benching
His message was simple. “Free 3,” Smith wrote on X. Smith isn’t a fan of how the Broncos have treated Wilson. It was reported that the franchise was demanding that Wilson change his contract to be more team-friendly. After talks stalled, the Broncos decided to go ahead and bench Wilson. This likely signals the end of Wilson’s time in Denver. It shows how cruel of a business the NFL can be.
New Regime Wants A New Quarterback
This happens a lot in all sports. A previous head coach/general manager makes a huge move and it doesn’t work out so he gets fired. The new regime comes in and is stuck with the aftermath. Then, the new regime quickly decides to cut their losses and move on. Wilson should have no trouble finding a job next year if he is cut. There are many teams that would love to have a veteran quarterback at the helm and Wilson has looked a lot better this year.
Will the Broncos actually end up cutting Wilson? They would take a massive dead cap hit but it seems they are already done with the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
