Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton took a shot at quarterback Russell Wilson following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday night. The 1-5 Broncos held the Chiefs to 19 points in the loss.
Holding Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense to fewer than 20 points should have been enough for the Broncos to win. But they failed to score double digits against the stiff Chiefs defense.
Much of the Broncos problems were to be found in their passing game. Wilson was awful Thursday night. He finished 13/22 passing for 95 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Denver Broncos: Sean Payton unhappy with passing offense
Payton was unhappy with the passing game during his press conference following the loss. According to Mike Klis with 9NEWS, Payton said the Broncos quarterback needs to be better at throwing:
“To win in our league you’ve got to be better throwing the ball,” Payton said.

Thursday night’s loss is going to eat at Wilson and Payton. It was a winnable game for the Broncos. At 1-5, the season is pretty much over in Denver.
As bad as Wilson was, Payton has to own responsibility for where the Broncos are this season. He knew that Wilson would be his quarterback for several seasons coming to Denver.
Payton and Wilson need to work on getting on the same page for the rest of the season, or the team could be an embarrassment for the next several seasons.
