Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf does not envision another breakout performance from fellow wideout and current Cincinnati Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase. During his Wednesday press conference, Metcalf admired Chase’s receiving ability, including the ease with which he catches the deep ball. However, he also thinks the Bengals standout will struggle in their Week 6 tilt.
“But, I think ‘Spoon (rookie CB Devon Witherspoon) will get the best of him,” said DK Metcalf during the exchange with the media.
“He’s always going to be a competitor at practice, and I see now, it translates to the game,” added Metcalf.

DK Metcalf is Right to Praise Devon Witherspoon
Devon Witherspoon is amid a fantastic rookie season, tallying 16 tackles, two sacks, four pass breakups, and a pick-six of New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Witherspoon was the 5th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He played four seasons at Illinois, earning All-American honors and the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year Award in 2022.
Ja’Marr Chase: Season Thus far
Ja’Marr Chase had struggled to open the season, failing to resemble the star receiver he had become throughout his young NFL career. However, after two subpar games to open the year, Chase posted a 12-catch, 141-yard receiving game against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3. After another solid outing against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4, Chase went bonkers against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. The LSU product hauled 15 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns in the Bengals’ victory. Chase has 44 receptions, 476 yards, and three touchdowns across five games. Chase is vying for his third straight Pro Bowl nod. Sunday will be Chase’s first career outing against the Seattle Seahawks.
Meanwhile, Devon Witherspoon last faced a wide receiver of Ja’Marr Chase’s caliber in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown went for six receptions for 102 yards. Fellow corners Tariq Woolen and Michael Jackson will also line up across Chase. Woolen was the co-leader in interceptions last season, while Jackson has ten tackles this year. The trio will try and contain Chase, a tall task for any secondary in the NFL.
