The taste of seven Super Bowls was not enough for Tom Brady to get over his bitterness about the 2000 NFL Draft. The San Mateo, CA native recently expressed his outrage with the San Francisco 49ers during his appearance on the Let’s Go podcast.
Tom Brady is still bitter at the 49ers
Brady grew up a 49ers fan. The greatest quarterback of all time was passed over by the 49ers six times before the New England Patriots finally selected the Michigan quarterback. Brady used not safe for work language to describe his feelings toward the organization nearly 24 years later:
“They passed me up six times in 2000, so f— them and that whole staff that kept me out because I had a chip on my shoulder for a long time,” Brady said.
Brady said he’ll root for players like Christian McCaffrey, who are on the 49ers. But the resentfulness of the 49ers passing on Brady has made the legendary quarterback no longer enjoy the classic color scheme for their jerseys.
Brady isn’t the only quarterback in recent memory who had a chip on their shoulder after being passed over by the 49ers. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been vocal about the organization drafting Alex Smith over him over the years.
