On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers suffered an embarrassing 33-19 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Former league MVP Cam Newton took pleasure in the 49ers’ loss, especially after calling quarterback Brock Purdy a game manager earlier this month. Purdy threw four picks to no touchdowns in the loss while leaving with an injury. However, Purdy’s teammate, star wideout Deebo Samuel, came to his aide on Wednesday, calling out Newton on the Up & Adams Show.
“First of all stop texting my phone Cam Newton, you were a fan like two weeks ago.”

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel: Calls Out Cam Newton
On The Up & Adams Show on Wednesday, San Francisco 49ers star wideout Deebo Samuel was asked about Cam Newton’s most recent tweet, a subtle shot at Samuel’s quarterback Brock Purdy. Samuel responded, saying, “First of all, Cam Newton, stop texting my phone, bro; you were a fan like two weeks ago. You wanted me on your podcast after talking about my quarterback.”
Newton, the NFL’s MVP in 2015 and the longtime signal-caller for the Carolina Panthers, made headlines earlier this month for calling San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, among others, game managers and not game changers. Newton tweeted three emojis on Monday night during the 49er’s loss against the Baltimore Ravens, taking a subtle shot at Brock Purdy during his four-interception game.
However, Samuel did not take kindly to Newton’s actions. On the Up & Adams Show, Samuel told the former gunslinger to stop hitting his line, especially after he disrespected his quarterback.
San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy: MVP Caliber 2023 Season
Despite a horrid four-interception game last Monday, quarterback Brock Purdy has played excellent for the San Francisco 49ers this season. The Iowa State product has thrown for 4,050 yards and 29 touchdowns against 11 picks this season while completing 69% of his passes. Purdy places second in the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns while leading the ‘9ers to the best record in the NFC.
Purdy entered Week 16 with the lowest odds of winning the 2023 MVP, but his poor performance has tanked his odds. Instead, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Purdy’s teammate, Christian McCaffrey, are the current betting favorites. Jackson is eighth in the NFL among qualifiers regarding quarterback rating, while McCaffrey leads the league in rushing yards.
