On the heels of a statement 42-19 win at the reigning NFC Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, the San Francisco 49ers are not done making roster improvements in preparation for a very possible deep playoff run and potentially a Super Bowl appearance.
Despite boasting one of the toughest and fastest defenses in the entire National Football League, the one position that could still be considered a weak spot was the secondary, particularly the safety position, where at present long time veteran, Tashaun Gipson Sr., and rookie, J’ayir Brown, are the incumbent starters.
Now it looks like there may be a new starting safety in town, one who has already been to the ‘promised land’ of the Super Bowl before with the New England Patriots, per Ian Rapoport.

How Will This Impact The San Francisco 49ers Defense?
Having had Pro-Bowl safety, Talanoa Hufanga, ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL during the 49ers 27-`14 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 49ers were missing a key, speedy presence in the middle of their defense.
Despite impressive play from rookie 3rd Round pick, J’ayir Brown, it is vital to have both depth and strength at a position responsible for defending the most important passing plays in the game. Bringing in a player like Logan Ryan, who has experience at corner and safety, who is veteran enough to diagnose opposition plays and athletic enough to defend them, is a smart move from one of the NFL’s premier operations.
Combining this defense with the San Francisco 49ers’ juggernaut offense, that now has second year former Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, on MVP watch, is a truly scary sight for fellow NFC contenders. This week the 49ers host division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, where the Niners are 10.5 point favorites.
