The San Francisco 49ers will look to return to the Super Bowl next season, but they hope to emerge victorious after coming up short in their past three tries. To do so, the NFC West club will try to shed some salary cap while keeping their elite talent in-house. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, they did just that on Wednesday, restructuring the contract of All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk.
Juszczyk will stay in San Francisco while simultaneously shedding nearly $2 million in the salary cap. Per Over The Cap, the 49ers had just $5.7 million in salary cap before restructuring Juszczyk’s contract.
Kyle Juszczyk: Staying with San Francisco 49ers
Kyle Juszczyk entered the offseason with a base salary of $5.75 million and a cap hit of $7.6 million. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, despite his restructuring, he remains the highest-paid fullback in the NFL. Juszczyk is in the middle of a five-year, $27 million contract and has earned a reputation as one of the most versatile weapons in the NFL.

Juszczyk, a fourth-round draft pick in the 2013 NFL draft, started his career with the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent four seasons. The Harvard product signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent in 2017, where he has been ever since. A Pro Bowler every year since 2016, Juszczyk made his first All-Pro team last season while helping lead San Francisco to the Super Bowl. He enters his age-33 season with 16 receiving touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns through 11 seasons.
San Francisco 49ers: Active During Free Agency
With legal tampering beginning on Monday, the 49ers have been active in an attempt to bolster their roster. They have signed veteran pass-rusher Leonard Floyd, traded for defensive tackle Maliek Collins, and signed linebacker Eric Kendricks, among other moves. Additionally, they will bring back quarterback Brandon Allen on a one-year deal. Allen will likely be the backup to starter Brock Purdy after last season’s backup, Sam Darnold, signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
