The San Francisco 49ers failed to exorcise past demons as they faltered against the Kansas City Chiefs in the overtime of Super Bowl LVIII. After a strong run throughout the regular season, questions arise on what the Niners should do next.
Deebo Samuel is among the Niners players who failed to live up to the hefty expectations set against him. His poor performance opened the door for some of his critics to take shots at his expense. One of the players who grabbed the opportunity is one of the star players of a bitter rival.
Fletcher Cox sounds off at Deebo Samuel for Eagles comments
Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox took to social media to diss the wide receiver for talking about his team after the Niners lost a heartbreaker to the Chiefs, 25-22.
Heavy.com’s Chris Licata wrote about Cox’s aggressive response to the wideout:
“@19problemz keep the EAGLES OUT CHO MOUTH BOE,” Cox wrote on his Instagram story.
In a follow-up IG story, Cox continued: “I still got some you ain’t got. Ya!! I been holding this one in son!!!!! EAD.”
His comments were most likely made in response to the venomous words Samuel made over the Niners-Eagles rivalry. In Samuel’s mind, he doesn’t consider the Eagles a rival to his team after the beating they gave the Super Bowl LVII participants.
Samuel barely made an impact during his team’s defeat. He only made three receptions for 33 yards without scoring any touchdowns. He was as equally ineffective on the ground: he rushed thrice for a paltry eight yards.
While it’s important to note that Samuel was not playing his best after going down, his failure to break free from Chiefs DBs cost him and ultimately the win. It was a disappointing end to the season for a wideout that had an impressive year with 1117 all-purpose yards and 12 total TDs throughout the 2023 regular season.
